About NYC School Tours

A free calendar of NYC public middle school tours and open houses, and a school finder, run by a public school parent. It is not affiliated with NYC Public Schools or the Department of Education.

Most middle schools post their tour dates on their own websites, sign-up forms or calendars, and many never post them on MySchools. This site gathers them in one place. Applications, rankings and offers all happen on MySchools, the official site.

Where the dates come from

Every event shows where it came from and when it was last checked there. Schools change dates, fill up and cancel, so please confirm with the school before you go.

Found a mistake?

Every event and school page has a Report a problem link. Reports are usually read within a day. If a source stops showing an event, it comes off the calendar until someone checks it.

For school staff: post your tours on MySchools

When a tour here says Not on MySchools yet, we found it on the school's own website, or a reader sent it in, and it isn't on the MySchools events calendar. The note doesn't doubt the tour. It only says it isn't on the official calendar, the one NYC Public Schools points families to for open houses and tours. Posting it there helps every family, including the many who never find this site.

If you work at the school, you can post it yourself:

  1. Sign in to the MySchools School Portal, school.myschools.nyc, with your DOE username and password. No MySchools login? Email the middle school admissions team at MSEnrollment@schools.nyc.gov with your school's DBN, and copy your principal.
  2. Under Admissions & Applicants to My School, open Calendar, then Calendar Events, and choose Add Event.
  3. Choose Middle School and the kind of event, add a title, the date and times, the place and a short description, and publish. Families see it on MySchools straight away.

This site is run by a parent, not by NYC Public Schools, so we can't post it for you. We list your tours either way. Give it the same date and start time as your website, and we'll show the two as one event, with MySchools' details and your own sign-up form if you have one. If something we list is wrong, use Report a problem on the event, or the report form.

For web administrators

The program that reads school websites identifies itself as NYCSchoolToursBot, makes one request at a time, and follows each site's robots.txt. On Edlio sites, whose platform-wide robots.txt admits only named search engines, it keeps to the pages Edlio opens to Google. It reads only public pages and never submits a form.

The site is free and has no ads. If it's helped your family, you can buy me a coffee (opens in a new tab).
