Terms of use
NYC School Tours is a free guide, run by one parent. Its dates can be wrong, so confirm with the school before you go.
These terms cover the site, its calendar feeds and its shortlists, and are an agreement between you and Untitled Repo LLC (“we” and “us”), which runs the site. By using them you agree to these terms; if you don't, please don't use them. What the site keeps about you is on the Privacy page.
Not the official source
The site is independent. It isn't run or endorsed by NYC Public Schools (the Department of Education), the City of New York, MySchools or any school; their names appear here only to say where information came from. Applications, eligibility, rankings, offers and deadlines are on MySchools, the official site. Where this site and MySchools or a school disagree, go by them.
Dates and details can be wrong
We work to get things right, but we can't promise that they are. A listing can be wrong or out of date because:
- schools change dates, times and places, fill up and cancel, often telling only their own families;
- MySchools, a school's website or a reader's tip can be wrong to begin with;
- our copy lags behind its source: MySchools is copied every six hours, and school websites are read once a day, as About explains;
- the program that reads school websites, including the AI model that helps it, can misread a page, and the person who checks what it finds can miss a mistake;
- copies of our listings elsewhere, such as in search results or your calendar app, can be older still.
So before you go to a tour, sign up, take time off, or arrange travel or childcare, confirm the date, time, place and sign-up with the school or MySchools. Every event here says where it came from and when it was last checked there, and links to it.
The admissions details on school pages, such as programs, admission methods and eligibility, are copied from MySchools and can be behind it. They're there to help you look, not advice: make admissions decisions from MySchools and the school.
No guarantees
The site, its calendar feeds and its shortlists are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that anything here is accurate, complete, current or fit for a particular purpose. We don't promise that the site or any part of it will be available, keep working or keep updating, or that a shortlist will be kept.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or harm that comes from using the site or relying on it. That includes going to a tour at the wrong time or place, finding it full or cancelled, missing a tour, a sign-up or a deadline, the cost of travel, childcare or time off, and any school's admissions decision. If we're found liable anyway, the most we owe you, for all claims together, is $100. These limits also cover the LLC's owners and anyone who works on the site. Where the law doesn't allow them, they apply as far as it does.
Other sites
Events link to schools' websites and sign-up forms, MySchools and other sites we don't run. We aren't responsible for what they say, whether they work, or what they do with what you give them. Signing up for a tour is between you and the school.
Calendar feeds and shortlists
- A calendar feed changes on its own: events are added, changed and removed, and a cancelled one is marked cancelled. Your calendar app decides how often it checks, so it can be hours behind the site.
- A shortlist kept in your browser goes when the browser clears it. A synced list is deleted after a year without use, as the Privacy page explains.
- Anyone with your sync link can change or delete your list. Share it only with people you trust; we aren't responsible for what's done with it.
What you send in
When you add a tour or report a problem:
- send only what you believe is true and have the right to share, and leave out names and contact details;
- you give us permission, free and for good, to use, copy, edit, publish and keep it, on the site, in its calendar feeds and wherever they're shared. You keep any rights you had in it, and a tour is credited to “a reader”;
- we may decline, change or remove anything, and don't have to say why.
Using the site fairly
You're welcome to share links, calendar feeds and what you read here with other families. Please don't:
- send tours or reports you know are false, or spam;
- try to get into the review desk or someone else's synced list, or get around the site's limits;
- overload the site. A program that reads it should make one request at a time and follow its robots.txt, as ours does on school websites;
- present what's here as official, or as your own.
We may block anyone who breaks these terms. If a claim is made against us because of something you sent in, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of it.
Whose words these are
School descriptions, quotes and event details belong to the schools and MySchools. They're shown so families can find them, each with a link to where it came from. The site's own words, design and code are ours. If you think something here uses your work or information in a way it shouldn't, email legal@untitledrepo.com, and we'll look at it and remove it if it shouldn't be here.
For parents and guardians
The site is for adults choosing schools for their children. It isn't meant for children under 13, and they shouldn't use its forms.
Changes
We may change or stop the site, any part of it or these terms at any time. A change to these terms applies from when it's posted here, and the date below is the latest. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
The rest
New York law governs these terms, and any dispute about them or the site goes to the state or federal courts in New York City. If a part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies, and not enforcing a part isn't giving it up. Legal notices go to legal@untitledrepo.com. For anything else, such as a wrong date, use Report a problem.
