About the school
Community Action School is a small middle school built on the belief that every student deserves to be known, supported, and challenged. Guided by our core values of Caring, Courage, Community, and Action, our dedicated staff works collaboratively to ensure that all students receive individualized academic, social, and emotional support while engaging in rigorous and meaningful learning experiences. We place a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to make connections across subjects and explore real-world issues from multiple perspectives. Students take advantage of New York City's rich cultural and educational resources through frequent field trips and experiences. Signature programs include our three-day camping trip to the Clearpool Environmental Education Center and our annual schoolwide Broadway trip. All 8th-grade students are enrolled in Regents-level Algebra I and Living Environment courses, providing opportunities to earn high school credit before entering 9th grade. Our advisory program focuses on goal setting, relationship building, and social-emotional development. Students also have access to a robust after-school program offering sports, arts, leadership opportunities, and academic support, as well as Saturday Academy from October through May. We encourage prospective families to learn more about our school by visiting our website, reading our reviews on InsideSchools, and scheduling a tour. Interested families may contact Principal Andrew Sullivan at asulliv@schools.nyc.gov. Diversity in Admissions (DIA): Priority to applicants eligible for free or reduced price lunch for 25% of seats.
