About the school
Do you have a child that is struggling to read? Are they a reluctant reader or do they avoid reading altogether? The South Bronx Literacy Academy (SBLA) is the first stand-alone public school in New York City specifically designed to serve students who are struggling to read or have diagnosed dyslexia. SBLA will help your child learn to read by using an instructional approach grounded in the latest research on brain development and the science of reading. Children will participate in daily, explicit, multisensory instruction, along with social emotional support as part of a strong and loving community. SBLA will meet your child where they are and help them reach their academic potential. This school is expanding to serve grade 6 for the 2026-2027 school year, and will serve grades 2 through 8 at scale starting in the 2028-2029 school year.
