About the school

Mott Hall Science and Technology Academy is a rigorous, math, science, and technology-focused middle school that offers families an opportunity for their children to meet the highest academic expectations and standards. Our mission is to cultivate international mindedness, encourage students to think beyond the boundaries of their community, and prepare them for smooth transitions to selective high schools and competitive admission to top public and private colleges. We are proud to be the first stand-alone International Baccalaureate (IB) certified public middle school in New York City. Our IB program empowers students to become critical thinkers, compassionate leaders, and globally minded citizens. Through inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary projects, and a focus on real-world connections, students develop strong academic and personal skills that prepare them for success in high school and beyond. We are also an AVID-certified school. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) equips our students with essential academic and organizational skills, fosters a college-going mindset, and provides structured support to help them succeed in rigorous coursework. Through AVID, students develop strong writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading strategies, while also building confidence and leadership skills. In addition to our academic excellence, we offer a strong theater curriculum that nurtures creativity, confidence, and collaboration. Our students have performed in acclaimed productions such as Mean Girls, High School Musical, and Once on This Island. Our school culture is shaped by a shared vision for academic excellence, personal growth, and the belief that all students can and will succeed in their endeavors, whether in STEM, the arts, or beyond.
