About the school
Are you ready for an exciting middle school journey? At The Benjamin Franklin Health and Science Academy (PS/IS 157), we offer a unique and vibrant learning experience designed to foster critical thinking and prepare students for leadership. Why Choose Us? Our students engage in hands-on learning through our Native Garden: Learn about local plants and ecosystems. Makerspace: Participate in creative projects using state-of-the-art tools and technology. Chicken Coop: A unique opportunity to experience sustainable living. Kitchen Classroom: Learn the joys of cooking and nutrition. We offer a variety of high-interest clubs and a yoga and meditation room for mindfulness. Our 8th graders have the opportunity to take the NYS Math Regents exam, and we use restorative practices to support our students' emotional and social well-being. Our school reflects the rich diversity of New York City, with approximately 400 students from 3K through 8th grade. We take pride in our inclusive environment, which includes 38% English Language Learners and 17% students with disabilities. We are committed to partnering with students, caregivers, and the community to provide a dynamic and engaging educational experience. We emphasize rigorous academic support, emotional nurturing, and social engagement to ensure holistic development. We maintain strong home-school connections through monthly meetings, workshops, and bilingual communication. The Benjamin Franklin Health and Science Academy is more than just a school; it is a community dedicated to the growth of every student. We invite you to join our school family!
