About the school
M.S. 582, located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is The Magnet School for Multimedia Technology and Urban Planning, serving students in grades 6-8. Grounded in our philosophy of Experience, Exposure, and Discovery, we provide students with meaningful opportunities to explore their interests and develop the skills needed for future success. Beyond our strong core curriculum, students have access to specialized programs in multimedia technology, urban planning, hydroponics, visual arts, music, fabrication, and computer science. Through partnerships with organizations such as Beam Center, BRIC Arts Media, Make: STEAM, NY Sun Works, and Drone Cadets, students engage in hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom learning to the real world. Our extracurricular offerings foster creativity, leadership, and collaboration through activities such as debate, chess, robotics, drones, videography, podcasting, dance, drumline, crochet, and culinary arts. We take pride in our state-of-the-art Fab Lab, equipped with 3D printers, engravers, laser cutters, and digital design tools. Eighth-grade students may challenge themselves through advanced coursework, including Algebra I Regents, Biology Regents, and U.S. History Regents. M.S. 582 also offers a comprehensive athletics and performance program, including baseball, softball, flag football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, wrestling, soccer, kickball, and dance. As a proud Community School, we partner with Grand Street Settlement to provide counseling, family support, and social-emotional services, while St. Nicks Alliance operates our five-day-a-week after-school program. Together, these partnerships ensure that students and families receive the academic, social, and emotional supports needed.
