About the school

Boerum Hill School for International Studies (BHS) is a diverse, inclusive 6-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in the heart of Brooklyn. As the only public school in District 15 offering the full IB continuum from grades 6-12, we believe that every child deserves access to a rigorous, engaging, and globally focused education. Our students learn through inquiry, discussion, critical thinking, and real-world problem solving while developing the IB Learner Profile traits of being caring, open-minded, reflective, and principled. BHS offers all students the opportunity to participate in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in high school. Students engage in rich learning experiences including debate, research, interdisciplinary projects, community service, international-mindedness activities, and authentic performance-based assessments. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in athletics, student government, arts programs, clubs, international trips, leadership opportunities, and a wide range of after-school programming. Our school community values strong relationships and personalized support. Through advisory, counseling services, academic intervention programs, and a commitment to inclusive practices, we ensure students are known, challenged, and supported. We are proud of our growing IB Diploma Programme, strong graduation outcomes, improving attendance, and commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers, and life. At BHS, students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, explore their passions, engage with diverse perspectives, and become active contributors to their communities. Our mission is simple: Every Child is Our Child.
