About the school
A Brooklyn Green School scholar experiences learning as something that extends far beyond the classroom. Our students engage in a rigorous academic program in preparation for high school through challenging coursework, high school-level classes and the opportunity to earn credit by taking the Biology and Algebra Regents exams. Learning is meaningful, relevant, and rooted in real-world experiences. As a project-based learning school, students investigate authentic problems, conduct action research, and apply their learning through field studies, community partnerships, and hands-on experiences. Our eco-activism theme encourages students to become environmental stewards by growing, harvesting, and cooking fresh fruits and vegetables while developing a lifelong commitment to health, wellness, and sustainability. Students discover and develop their passions through a rich arts program that includes visual art, theater, chorus, and band, where they can learn from 10 different instruments. Beyond the school day, a robust after-school program offers additional opportunities in the arts, dance, sports and unique experiences such as boat building and camping. Student voice and leadership are central to the Brooklyn Green experience. Through Student Government, Peer Mediators, the GSA, book clubs, and other student-led organizations, scholars learn to advocate for themselves and others while building confidence and responsibility. Our students also thrive through athletics, participating in track, flag football, competitive cheer, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Brooklyn Green School scholars learn by doing. They graduate as confident, compassionate, and environmentally conscious leaders who are prepared to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.
