About the school

At Public School 189 - The Bilingual Center, we are dedicated to fostering academic excellence by offering students a well-rounded educational experience. Our diverse student body has the opportunity to learn a foreign language, choosing between French or Spanish. We provide six Regents courses: Algebra 1, English, Living Environment, Earth Science, and World Languages for both French and Spanish. Our curriculum is enriched with a robust performing arts program, featuring drama, band, dance, vocal music, and visual arts. To further support our students' growth, we offer an extensive afterschool program, partnering with organizations like the Brooklyn Children s Museum (Grades K-5), Brooklyn Community Services (Grades 6-8), and Cub Scouts (Grades K-5). Our partnerships with the Metropolitan Museum, Kings County Mental Health, and the Brooklyn Children s Museum enhance studentseducational experiences both in and outside the classroom. Additionally, we offer financial literacy education, ensuring students develop essential life skills. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to attend cultural and educational events, including visits to the Museum of Moving Image and other performing arts performances, broadening their understanding of the world and encouraging creativity.
