About the school

Welcome to I.S. 285 Meyer Levin School for the Performing Arts, a vibrant middle school at 5909 Beverly Road in East Flatbush, Brooklyn (District 18). Serving grades 6-8, Meyer Levin is school that welcomes creative young minds from across all boroughs through its specialized performing arts admissions program. Our school operates on "The 5 Cs," ensuring our students grow to be Courageous, Collaborative, Creative, Competitive, and Cultured. At Meyer Levin, self-expression and academic excellence go hand in hand. Our legendary arts department allows students to specialize in intensive talent majors and perform on major stages across NYC. These specialized studios include our renowned Steel Drum Orchestra, which teaches the rich history and rhythms of steel pan music; our Musical Theater and Drama program, where students learn acting and stage design for full-scale productions; our Dance department, which explores classic and contemporary choreography; and our Instrumental and Vocal Music tracks. While creativity is our heartbeat, academic rigor is our foundation. We prepare students for competitive high schools through our accelerated "Astral" program, allowing eighth graders to take high-school-level Regents classes in Living Environment and Algebra I for early credit. We also offer STEM enrichment featuring Robotics, comprehensive English as a New Language (ENL) support, integrated Special Education services, and targeted SHSAT preparation. To foster focus and pride, Meyer Levin enforces a school uniform policy. Our campus supports families with free daily breakfast at 7:30 AM, extended-day after-school programming, and Saturday Academies.
