About the school
At the Middle School for Art and Philosophy (MSAP), we believe every student deserves a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment where they are challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and empowered to discover their unique talents. The arts are at the heart of who we are. Students explore their creativity through visual arts, dance, theater, chorus, mural design, culinary arts, music production, keyboarding, and more. Throughout the school year, students showcase their talents through multiple school-wide performances and exhibitions, including our annual Art Gala. Our rigorous academic program prepares students for success in high school and beyond through standards-based instruction, targeted academic intervention, and opportunities for advanced coursework, including the Biology and Algebra I Regents. As a restorative practices and Outward Bound school, we believe in elevating student voice, building leadership, developing student advocacy, and creating a strong sense of belonging through meaningful community building experiences.Students develop critical thinking, effective communication, conflict resolution, and peer mediation skills while learning to take responsibility for their actions and contribute positively to their school community. At MSAP, we believe every student has the potential to lead with optimism, accountability, and resilience while making a meaningful impact both inside and outside the classroom. Our goal is to graduate confident, creative, and compassionate young people who are prepared to thrive academically, pursue their passions with purpose, and SOAR as leaders in their schools and communities.
