About the school

I.S. 240 Magnet School of STE(a+)M is a diverse middle school (grades 6-8) serving approximately 400 students who speak over 10 languages. Our vision,“Building a Better World, is realized through Global Awareness, Critical Consciousness, and Project-Based Learning on a digital platform. As a Magnet school, we offer a specialized curriculum in Technology, Engineering, Foreign Language, and the Arts, alongside core subjects like ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Our science program follows the SCALES curriculum and is enriched by partnerships with NYU Tandon, PACE University, Kingsborough Community College, Midwood High School, Girl Be Heard, Broadway Junior, and CAMBA. Students engage in real-world learning through our Innovation Lab (Robotics, 3D Printing, Computer Tech), Hydroponic Lab, and Outdoor Garden. For advanced learners, our Polaris Bridge Program connects Andries Hudde MS students with Midwood HS, offering accelerated STEM courses and SHSAT prep. While not guaranteeing admission, Polaris builds a strong foundation for success in specialized high schools. To support social-emotional wellness, we partner with Mindful SEAD and School Culture Solutions, fostering identity awareness, empathy, and global understanding. We celebrate student voice and achievement through events like STOP Bullying Day, SEL Day, PBL Expos, Science Fair, Civics Day, and more. Our after-school programs include Broadway Junior, STEP at Kingsborough, CAMBA, Girl Be Heard, academic support, and Title III ENL services. In Fall 2025, we ll launch new student interest clubs.
