About the school

I.S. 381 offers an intimate, personalized, and nurturing environment where academic rigor is valued. Our staff works collaboratively to develop enriched, individualized curricula to meet students' needs. We offer accelerated courses like Living Environment, Algebra, and American History, which lead to Regents credits. As students move through the grades, they participate in three separate academies: 6th Grade: Academy of Dramatic and Fine Arts (ADAFA): Students engage in a program dedicated to nurturing new and existing talents through coursework, performances, and showcases. 7th Grade: Academy of Law and Civics: Students are introduced to careers in law, the courts, and law enforcement. Enrichment courses focus on legal issues, and students participate in role-playing, public speaking, and fun, law-themed trips. 8th Grade: Medical Science Academy: This program prepares students for high school by visiting science museums, colleges with STEAM majors, and local medical facilities. Students also network with current medical and science professionals. These academies offer enrichment coursework to prepare students for prestigious high school programs. Our school also has partnerships with several organizations, including New York Edge, Girl Be Heard, and CHAMPS, which provide our morning and after-school programs. Additionally, we offer a renowned STEAM Enrichment After-School program with offerings like Flag Football, STEM Design, Visual Arts, and Empower U/Nutrition. I.S. 381 participates in several Chancellor's initiatives, including Algebra for All, College Access for All, Computer Science for All, and Civics for All Partner Programs.
