About the school

Intermediate School 392, located in Brooklyn, is a grade 6-8 middle school with over 300 students. Our mission is to establish and maintain a school environment that is challenging and nurturing. At IS 392 we equip students with the tools for success both educationally and emotionally. We promote academic excellence and digital acuity by infusing the arts and professional competencies to prepare students for college and careers. IS 392 scholars engage in high levels of academic achievement utilizing a rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum focusing on the higher-order thinking skills of application, synthesis, and evaluation. This curriculum infuses the arts, creates articulate public speakers, and encourages students to become productive members of society. Student led classrooms are grounded in questioning, writing, discussion, and inquiry to create high-level learning experiences in all content areas.Learning tasks are developed to promote student thinking and invite students to explain their thinking. The Leadership Program provides mentoring for at-risk students with successful role models from the community. In order to build school spirit and develop students' personal interests, we offer various after-school programs. Parents are also significant contributors within the school community, working harmoniously with the staff to ensure their children's success. At I.S. 392, we truly live by the mantra of the African proverb: "It takes a whole village to raise a child."
