About the school
I.S.61 is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School following the 7 habits of highly successful people. Students in our school are fully immersed in differentiated instruction that targets their individual learning needs. I.S. 61 has five academies within the main school that foster a nurturing learning environment for our students. Each academy is set up with its own dean, guidance counselor, assistant principal, and staff of teachers, therefore creating a small learning community. Students have the ability to take all Regents offered by the school or participate in many of our afterschool clubs. Programs are also available for parents of our school community, including English as a New Language (ENL), GED, and fitness programs.
