About the school
PS/IS 87 Middle Village is a zoned 3K - Grade 8 school. We are dedicated to developing future leaders, encouraging students to become advocates for humanity, and fostering an appreciation for diversity, culture, and individual differences. Students learn in a safe, nurturing environment guided by the school mantra: "Treat people the way they want to be treated." We celebrate the diversity of our community through celebrations that honor cultures, holidays, and traditions within our school. These experiences help students develop respect, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. We offer an Honors Program with a rigorous Regents track. The program promotes academic excellence and prepares students for success in high school and beyond. Mandarin is our language program, providing students with the opportunity to develop language skills while gaining an appreciation for Chinese culture. The school also encourages teamwork, leadership, and healthy competition through the CHAMPS program and a variety of athletic teams, including track, basketball, and volleyball. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities that build confidence, sportsmanship, and school pride. Our Broadway Junior Program has developed a growing theater program that allows students to explore the performing arts, build confidence, and develop skills in acting, singing and stage production while showcasing their talents. PS/IS 87 values strong community partnerships and collaborates with organizations such as the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council, NYC Swim for Life and NYC Parks Department. These partnerships enrich student learning and provide meaningful opportunities for leadership development, community service, environmental awareness, and educational growth.
