About the school

MS 53 offers a warm, student-centered environment in which students enjoy a curriculum of rigorous academics in math and the sciences. Through our challenging coursework, we encourage our students academically while providing a safe and supportive learning environment. A carefully developed, challenging course of study is designed to foster creative and independent thought and facilitate students' success in the top high schools in New York City. At MS 53 our students in the 8th grade take Algebra 1 and Living Environment as well as complete the regents in both courses to begin high school with credits. Teachers are trained in EdTech, and the students are engaged in Virtual Enterprise. Virtual Enterprise is a program that enables students to develop technology and entrepreneurial skills by starting and managing business ventures. Our wide array of extracurricular activities gives students numerous opportunities to engage and excel in community service, cultural arts, athletics, student government, and academic competition and research. Our family-oriented school strives to give back to our community through supports we receive from our strategic partnerships, which include but are not limited to, Child Center and Community Mediation Services that provides a well-rounded extracurricular program for our students. Our scholars have access to numerous in-school and after-school programs that are available through our partnerships which are designed to enrich and compliment their learning style and experiences. At MS 53 our Motto is being our best always, and our graduates become productive members of society, which go on to excel at their high schools of choice as well as college, careers and beyond.
