About the school
Located in the heart of Far Rockaway, Queens, Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy VI (KAPPA VI) is a small, inclusive, and tight-knit learning community where every student is known, supported, and challenged. Modeled after the Air Force philosophy of leadership and service, our students, called cadets, are encouraged to lead with integrity, think critically, and aim high. Each class, known as a squadron, is named after a NASA space mission, and our students wear uniforms that reflect pride, purpose, and unity. At KAPPA VI, our vision is to be an Ivy League Middle School Academy, preparing cadets not just for high school, but for lifelong success in college, career, and civic life. Our rigorous academic program includes opportunities for students to earn high school credit through Regents-level coursework in Algebra I, Biology, U.S history and Spanish Language Proficiency. Our cadets are also encouraged to take the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) to broaden their access to top-tier high school options. Beyond the classroom, we are proud to offer a wide range of enrichment experiences that allow students to explore their passions and talents in areas such as Urban Agriculture, Food Science, Engineering, Journalism, Robotics, Chess, and Musical Theater. Our robust arts program includes general music, visual art, guitar, and band, supporting the development of the whole child. Every cadet has daily access to Chromebooks, and our staff integrates technology through Google Classroom to support interactive, student-centered learning. We are equally committed to our students' social and emotional growth, by ensuring our cadets meet with our guidance counselor and social worker on a regular basis.
