About the school

The Catherine and Count Basie Magnet School for Multimedia and Performing Arts,the Jewel of Jamaica, is the premier middle school of South Jamaica, Queens.We meet each childs needs through a rigorous project-based, culturally responsive, and interdisciplinary curriculum that utilizes multimedia and performing arts. Our students will develop their academic and performing talents while engaging in a high-quality STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). We offer advanced Algebra and Living Environment Regents courses. Our school benefits from a community of qualified staff with years of experience who cater to students educational and social-emotional needs.As a multimedia and performing arts magnet school, students will have the ability to showcase their talents in Broadway Jr. musicals, dance shows, and musical performances. In our elective classes, students will learn the essentials of podcasting, visual and fashion design, and culinary arts.
