About the school
Welcome to I.S. 235, Academy for New Americans! As a Citywide program in District 30, we create an inclusive environment where every student is seen, heard, and celebrated. Our mission is to equip students to lead with excellence. We serve newly arrived students and aspiring global leaders in grades 6-8, providing a nurturing space for academic achievement, creativity, and growth. Our approach includes comprehensive language support through Spanish Dual Language (DL), English as a New Language (ENL), Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE), and support for Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE)ensuring effective acquisition and academic success. Enrichment includes S.T.E.A.M, Robotics, Hydroponics, World Language (HS credit), and Financial Literacy. Arts integration is supported by partnerships with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Lincoln Center, Artist Year, ArtsConnection, Urban Advantage, Behind the Book, Queens C.A.S.A., and NY Edge. Community engagement is key. Students enjoy field trips to universities, museums, and cultural sites, alongside science fairs and service projects that instill civic responsibility. Student agency is central. Through our Student Leadership Ambassador Program, learners become confident leaders. SEL-infused practices and counseling ensure students are emotionally and socially supported. Our Parent Partnership Program fosters strong family ties via workshops, events, and multilingual resources to keep families informed. At I.S. 235, potential is discovered, nurtured, and realized. Join us in shaping futures and opening doors to lifelong success.
